Mastercard is a leading global payments & technology company that connects consumers, businesses, merchants, issuers & governments around the world. With many physical branch offices on the globe, company decided to expand their premium Shanghai headquarter office, located in Lujiazui business district, by additional 1400 sqm.

In first step, design team met with all end-user group representatives in order to gain understanding of company culture and methodology of work. As a result, we were able to work out the best approach to develop initial concept design. Functional strategy involved all received comments, office future expansion plans and external conditions. The latter was especially important, since the IFC twin towers are located in the heart of Pudong Super Hi-rise compound. Amazing outside views connected with all-day sun exposure were perfect fit for employee-friendly hi-quality office space. Hence all workstations with collaboration spaces in between are located along the windows elevation, while private offices are pushed inside.

In order to underline Mastercard spirit, we designed many details inspired by company products and branding. Red and orange dots, rounded corners of custom-made partitions and wood panels compositions create cozy space, easy to understand and navigate. In the same time, it was crucial to create office with local, Shanghainese touch, where employees feel their importance within global structure. On the walls we designed brick compositions inspired by original Shikumen architecture with Chinese patterns made of steel bars. Many black and white old Shanghai photos serve as additional decorations and create amazing insight into long history of China financial capital city development.
